摘要:Introduction and objectives Teamwork in surgery is essential for patient care and student performance. The availability of tools (questionnaires) designed to assess the students’ perceptions of teamwork in surgery in the Spanish language is limited. The objective of this study is to develop a tool in response to this call, and to validate its content. Methods This is a mixed methods study. The present questionnaire was developed from the qualitative analysis of student perceptions about teamwork in surgery, explored through theoretical foundations and the literature. Four groups of stakeholders assessed the relevance of the items included in the questionnaire, by using quantitative methods. Results The qualitative analysis allowed context and student factors, to be identified, as well as hindering and strengthening teamwork in surgery. By using these factors a questionnaire with a Likert scale, including all relevant concepts and construct domains, was developed. The items included in the questionnaire were evaluated by 25 surgeons, 36 medical students, 20 interns, and 22 surgical residents. The final analysis identified 33 highly relevant items. Conclusions Medical students have self-perceptions and context perceptions about teamwork in surgery, which can be objectively assessed by the tool developed. Further studies are required to explore the construct validity of this questionnaire, as well as its correlation with clinical and academic outcomes.
