摘要：Este artigo tem por objetivo discutir a educação profissional e tecnológica no Brasil, identificando seus avanços, desafios e possibilidades. Como objetivos específicos, apresenta um breve histórico dessa modalidade educacional, a legislação que a ampara e as políticas que influenciaram as mudanças percebidas. A pesquisa, de caráter bibliográfico e documental, apoiou-se nos estudos de Manacorda (1995), Kuenzer (2007) e Escott e Moraes (2012), dentre outros, além da consulta à legislação do período imperial e republicano do país. Por meio deste estudo pode-se identificar a trajetória da educação profissional no Brasil, as metas e estratégias estabelecidas no Plano Nacional de Educação no sentido de triplicar a oferta até 2024. Conclui-se que mesmo concretizando o estabelecido, a educação profissional não será ofertada de maneira a atender toda a demanda da educação básica e a toda a população interessada nesta modalidade de ensino.
其他摘要：This article aims to discuss the professional and technological education in
Brazil, identifying its improvements, challenges and possibilities. As specific objectives,
the work presents a brief history of this educational modality, the legislation that
supports it and the policies that influenced the perceived changes. The research,
bibliographical and documentary, was based on the studies of Manacorda (1995),
Kuenzer (2007) and Escott and Moraes (2012), among others, in addition to legislation of the imperial and republican period of the country. Through this study, we can identify
the trajectory of professional education in Brazil, the goals and strategies established in
the National Education Plan in order to triple the supply by 2024. The conclusion is
that, even if the projected scenario is achieved, the supply of professional education
will not fully meet the demand of basic education nor serve the entire population
interested in this type of education.
