摘要:After Modiano’s Dora Bruder , the genealogical investigation of the victims of Nazism has been mobilized by Daniel Mendelsohn, Marianne Rubinstein, Lydia Flem, Marcel Cohen, Ivan Jablonka and Hélène Cixous. These incomplete biographies of the lost are also indirect autobiographies of the investigator. While some writers dispense with going to the field, others scrutinize the difficulties of the decision to leave. What are the reasons for this? What do these contrasting attitudes tell us? What is special about the knowledge gathered in the field? This article is attentive to a hesitation that can take the form of a wrenching or impossible choice: between fiction and documentary investigation, departing and remaining.... Understanding the stakes of investigation in the field also requires going back to the origins of the inquiry, to question reasons, difficulties and generic choices that are also ethical choices.
