  • 摘要:Over the last decade a new side of chess has developed, as an educational tool. Scientists have made the necessary steps towards creating some researches. The first researches were, somewhat predictable, made to establish the link between chess and intelligence. The point to be reached was the interdependence between them chess helping to develop intelligence and high intelligence allows reaching the highest level of chess performance. This research focused on identifying the role of chess in the development of primary school pupils. The purpose of this research is to show the importance and usefulness of chess practice in an organized surroundings on the cognitive abilities of primary school pupils. Hypothesis. We assume that by constantly practicing chess for a semester by a group of primary school pupils, they will improve their cognitive abilities such as attention, memory and analytical thinking, thus their intellectual development will be a harmonious one. Material and method. In this research, 16 pupils from the 1st grade from the schools „Ioanid Romanescu" and „Avântu" were divided into two groups, the experimental group and the control group. The measurements were made with the IQ-Splash puzzle, which is designed to "test spatial perception." Findings. The overview of each group sends us an unequivocal message children who have practiced chess recorded incredible times in final testing, and the other students stagnated. Conclusions. The constant practice of chess for one semester improves the cognitive abilities of first graders such as memory, attention and analytical thinking, thus ensuring a harmonious intellectual development.
