摘要：In Portuguese and Luso-Brazilian letters from the 16th to the 18th centuries, even though the production and circulation of history texts are consistent, specific precepts about the historical genre are scarce. In view of this normative scarcity, this paper proposes to briefly discuss the historical art between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. From this discussion of precepts - in particular, by the rhetoricians referring to the ars narrandi -, it is analyzed, then, how the History of Brazil composed, in the first half of the 17h century, by friar Vicente do Salvador is narrated.
