摘要:We thank Vonk (1) for her interest in our paper (2) in PNAS. We appreciate her concerns; however, several comments in her Letter are already discussed and supported by data in our paper. We thus respectfully disagree with her claims about the limitations of our study and theoretical interpretation. Vonk argues that we should distinguish between “responding to others’ internal states rather than to behaviors” before claiming emotional contagion in animals. While we appreciate the importance of disentangling these mechanisms, we disagree that “to experience emotional contagion implies that observers perceive others’ emotions. Emotional contagion refers to the transfer of emotional states.
