摘要:This study explored the factors hindering men’s capabilities to actively participate in the early socialdevelopment of children. A qualitative approach grounded in the interpretivist paradigm allowing investigation ofparticipants in their natural setting was adopted. The sample comprised of ten purposively selected men who wereengaged in a focus group discussion. All ethical measures were adhered to and consent forms were completed.Collected data was analysed in evocative themes. The findings revealed that migrant labour, poverty, fear ofresponsibility and lack of commitment were factors hindering men’s capabilities to partake in the early socialdevelopment of their children. The study concluded that social and emotional development is fundamental to theall-round development of children hence, the need for men’s active participation. The study recommends tailormadeprograms and policies that motivate men’s capabilities to actively participate regardless their early socialisation, economic and marital status.
