  • 摘要:The study investigated textbook utilization and students‟ involvement as predictors of academic achievement in English Language. The study adopted a correlational survey research design. The population consisted of Senior Secondary School II Students in Osun State. A total of 720 students were used as the study sample. Three research instruments were designed, validated and used for the study. These include Questionnaire on Students‟ Utilization of English Language Textbooks (QSUELT), Observation Scale Measuring Students‟ Involvement in English Language Class (OSMSIELC) and English Language Achievement Test (ELAT). Three research questions were raised and answered. The results obtained were analyzed using Pearson and Multiple Regression analyses. The results among others showed that there existed a positive relationship between textbook utilization (r=.186), students involvement (r=.186) and students‟ achievement in English Language. The results further revealed that textbook utilization and students‟ involvement were significant in their composite academic contribution to the prediction of academic achievement of students‟ in English Language (F=5.316; p<0.05; R = .121,R2 =.015, Adj. R2= .012). The study recommended that teachers should invest in learning as co-learners with students.
