  • 摘要:Natural substances have been the subject of numerous researches in biology andchemistry to determine their potential biological and chemical activities. Theirapplication as corrosion inhibitors is increasingly being seen as an important strategy. Inthe present work, we studied the effect of essential oil of Apium graveolensL. (Celery),which is recognized in the medical field by its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterialamong others; on corrosion of carbon steel C35 (CS) in a 1.0 M HClenvironment using electrochemical and quantum chemical calculations techniques. Withthe objective of determining the most active component of its constituents and, which ofthem contributes most to the inhibition of corrosion, we conducted the extract from theoil of celery grains. The results obtained showed a very good improvement in theresistance of the CS in hydrochloric medium. We investigated the effect of certainparameters (concentration, temperature and immersion time) on celery inhibitionefficiency. The results obtained show that the addition of celery to the aggressivesolution slows down the corrosion process and that the inhibitory efficiency isincreasing with the inhibitor concentration.
