摘要：Accident rate in the city of Yogyakarta is relatively
high. It is, therefore, to investigate the correlation of traffic
accident and the driver background. Interview surveys were
carried out by interviewing around 5000 household about their
background and their driver behavior, i.e. whether they have
been involved in traffic accident or not. According to the
modal split, 87 % of traffic accidents are caused by
motorcycles, 8 % by car and 5 % by bicycle. Male drivers have
more probability to involve an accident. Order probit model
has been employed to get the relationship between traffic
accident and the age of the drivers, occupation, education and
the observance of the traffic rules. It is found that young,
unemployment, less educated and disobedient traffic rule
people have more accidents. It is recommended, therefore to
educate (especially young people) about traffic regulation and
the dangerous of the accident. It is also recommended to give
more punishment for breaking traffic regulation. It is also
suggested to improve public transport facilities, to change the
transport mode from using motor cycle to public transport.
