摘要:Several studies have conducted about the effect of music on the academic learning of students
particularly on reading comprehension. Hence, the purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of
instrumental music (Original Pilipino Music) on the reading comprehension performance of two groups of
Filipino students in Grade 8. The study utilized forty (40) students as participants. They were divided into
two (2) groups composed of twenty (20) students both in the experimental and control group. Five different
reading texts and reading comprehension tests were administered for both groups for five (5) days without
background music. On the following week the same reading texts and reading comprehension tests were
administered again for another five (5) days in the experimental group with background music and in the
control group without music. The study employed “True Experiment” particular the Pre-test Post test
Control Group Design. Results show that students who read and answer the comprehension test with the
use of instrumental music as background got higher scores compared to the results of students taking the
comprehension test without music.
