摘要:Fatigue has become progressively more relevant for technological development in automobiles, aircraft,
compressors, pumps, turbines, etc., subject to repeated loading and vibration. Fatigue failure is particularly insidious
because it occurs without any obvious warning. The current review discusses the fatigue failure in metals with special
emphasis on the impact of notch length on their fatigue life. The effect of stress concentration due to notch on the
member is discussed. The scope of the review also includes a detailed discussion on the fatigue life estimation methods
of notched members. It is clearly evident from previous literature that notch length has a vital impact on the fatigue life
of a structural member and the life decreases drastically even when the length of the notch increases marginally after
certain threshold length.
