  • 摘要:Difference Expansion along with its variants suchas Reduced Difference Expansion (RDE) is a popular approachin the field of data hiding. Nevertheless, current works have notyet achieved the optimal performance, in terms of the capacityof the secret data and the quality of the stego media. In thispaper, we propose a two layer-based algorithm in order tospecifically improve the capability of RDE method regardingto the capacity and the quality of the stego image. This is donein the following manners. The first is enhancing the differencetransformation scheme by taking the difference between thetwo closest pixels; and correspondingly, a new pixel constructionscheme is also adjusted. The second is optimizing the size of thepixel blocks. The third stage is expanding the algorithm for bothgrayscale and RGB color images. Fourth, the proposed methodimproves the use of non-changeable blocks to hide the secretdata. Finally, every block is processed once again to embedmore secret bits. It occurs by replacing the Least SignificantBit (LSB) of each pixel. The experimental results show thatthis method has made a significant improvement in terms ofthe capacity since around 1.85 bits are carried by each pixelwhere the quality is slightly higher than that of the presentedby previous research. Overall, by using the same block size, thisproposed method delivers higher performance for both capacityand quality; furthermore, by using a bigger block size, thismethod is able to obtain a significant increase of the capacitywith only slightly decrease of the quality.
