摘要：With the advancement in network based technologyCloud Computing is gaining more and more popularity as ahuge number of enterprise applications and data are usingcloud or Network based platforms. These services use theInternet, networking protocols, different management toolsand programming language. Providing security is a vitalfeature required from these network management tools.Distributed nature of cloud computing, makes it prone tovarious attacks and intrusions. A variety of techniques areavailable to help in detecting and/or preventing such attacks.Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) provide aneffective technique to detect and prevent intrusions. The NIDSare mainly designed to protect the availability, confidentialityand integrity of network system. Market provides a number ofopen sources and commercial Intrusion Detection Systems tochoose from according to the enterprises requirements. In thispaper we analyse some well know open source IDS tools forfeatures, general working behaviour, utility and performanceso that an organization can choose the appropriate tool as pertheir requirements.
