The issue contributes to the recent, ongoing effort by scholars who call long-overdueattention to the impressive artistic oeuvre of Gerard de Lairesse. Thistook place at the conclusion of the Rijksmuseum Twenthe’s exhibition Eindelijk! De Lairesse(2017–2018). A number of the authors in the current issue of JHNA participated in the symposium, while others have been invited specially to contribute here. The range of topics is broad, with authors presenting insights into Lairesse’s artistic development, thematic material, paintingtechnique, drawings, and workshop practice.
