摘要:The ancient rampart of Sale city shows a very advanced degree of deteriorationpatterns. To determine the relationship between the environment conditions and thestone decay, an elaborate study (X-ray fluorescence, Ion chromatography, X-RayDiffraction, Scanning electron microscopy and Atomic emission spectrometry) hasbeen carried out on decayed layers at the surface of the rampart. The results showthat the deterioration of the stone is mainly related to atmospheric pollutants (SO2,NOx) and in the second row the action of marine sprays by Na+ and Cl-deposition.The crystallized gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O) characterized the most of surface depositsand it’s formed by calcarenite oxidation of (CaCo3) particles reacting to atmosphericsulfur.
