  • 摘要:What is already known about this topic? Increasing the prevalence of quit attempts and successful quitting is important to increase smoking cessation and to reduce smoking-related disease, death, and costs. What is added by this report? In 2017, at least six in 10 adult smokers reported trying to quit in the past year in almost all states. In that year, the prevalence of past-year quit attempts ranged from 58.6% (Wisconsin) to 72.3% (Guam), with a state/territory median of 65.4%. During 2011–2017, quit attempt prevalence increased in four states and decreased in two states; quit attempt prevalence did not change significantly in the remaining 44 states, DC, and two territories over this period. What are the implications for public health practice? Increased implementation of proven tobacco control interventions, such as tobacco price increases, smoke-free policies, mass media campaigns, and barrier-free access to evidence-based cessation treatments, can increase the number of smokers who make a quit attempt and who succeed in quitting.
