摘要:Barbara Tillett rather succinctly summarises the purpose of authority control when she states that “Authoritycontrol brings precision to searches. It enables navigation and provides the end user with explanations for variations and inconsistencies. The controlled forms of names, titles and subjects help collocate works in displays” (1). Surely this is great news! Authority control ensures the user successfully finds exactly what he / sheis looking for within a given bibliographic database. Mention of authority control in your library in the currentclimate, however, is unlikely to be met with a positive and welcome response.
