  • 摘要:Background Intimate partner violence is a major health problem that has to be recorded in the medical history. Because of negative stereotypes about victims, this background could have an effect on medical care. Objectives To determine whether the clinical attitude of physicians can be modified by the history of gender abuse and to check whether there are differences with regards to medical students. Method A descriptive study was performed using an ad hoc questionnaire designed to explore the stereotypes and attitudes of participants towards abused women. Results Doctors did attribute certain preconceived characteristics to these patients, and were more frequently older and male physicians, and those who belonged to surgical specialties or family medicine. The responses, in 40% of participants, indicate that patient's autonomy and/or the correct performance of the clinical history may be affected. These stereotypes have also been demonstrated in students, but to a lesser extent, with no differences according to gender. Almost all (99%) students believe that any woman can be a victim of abuse and consider relevant the clinical record of this background. Nevertheless, this percentage in professionals decreases to 65% and 84%, respectively. Conclusions The history of intimate partner violence in the clinical notes can make physicians attribute some characteristics to patients, which could have an effect on their medical care.
