摘要:The paper reports on some wrinkles found on the label of a bottle which was collected at a crime scene: these wrinkles were initially misinterpreted as palm marks. Further investigations led to the conclusion that the afore-mentioned wrinkles were possibly related to two separate factors: an initial manufacturing fault amplified by a following reaction between a component of the bottle label and the solvent employed in the preparation of a commonly used fingerprint visualisation treatment, namely Basic Yellow 40. It is quite an interesting case since it relates to a kind of mistake which can be made in many laboratories because both the evidence and its processing are usually employed by fingerprint practitioners. Without performing a deeper analysis, it could have been declared that some non-identified marks were on the item with consequences from the investigative point of view.
