摘要：The Presidente Prudente Region can be interpreted through the territory that becomes the region. For this, the historical recovery of its construction (territory) and the conformation of a concept (region) that conforms the understanding of a place as the space of becoming and the space of delay. The confrontation of different concepts, important for Geography, is a possibility to show, partly through the intermediation of pronouncements acquired in a communication medium (newspaper), how the discourse consolidates, marks and is formed, almost permanently, its symbolic outline and the geographic elements that compose it. This incorporates aspects of culture, economy, population dynamics and landscape that intertwine throughout the historical process of occupation of the western part of São Paulo State .
