This study uses engagement as the basis to investigate howits different aspects interferes in the learning process of Physics students, mainly in the learning of the concepts of electricity evidenced by thetemporal evolution on the understanding of the studied topic. Regularclassroom activities developed by the students in the Physics class, wereused in the building of the understanding measure of electricity and in thebuilding of the cognitive and behavioral indicators. The indicator ofbehavioral engagement was built taking into consideration the average ofactivities performed by students throughout the unit of electricity. Toconstruct the indicator of cognitive engagement was analyzed studentperformance in 7 tests applied at the end of each lesson, the period inwhich the unit was given. The results show that keeping the cognitiveengagement during the classes contributes significantly to a better students’learning of the electricity concepts.
