This is a manwho was born in a 1955 Ford on historicUS 10 near Tyler, Wash. “I just arrived early. They say that’sthe last time I was early for anything,”deadpanned Jirava.Due to exposure, Jirava spent timein an incubator in a Spokane hospitalbefore coming home to Ritzville.Nothing quite so dramatic happenedduring his hometown school years.After high school, Jirava completedhis associate’s degree in ag business atSpokane Falls Community College. Likemost farm kids, he worked on the familyfarm growing up. Following college,while working for Pioneer Seed, a local fertilizer company,Jirava took advantage of an unusual opportunity. Hespent 1984 in Saudi Arabia working with irrigated cropproducers.
