摘要：Madagascar is an island state (surface area: 587 000km2), located about 300 km off the southeasterncoast of Africa, near Mozambique (see abovemap). In Madagascar, water-borne diseases are oftenresponsible for sickness and death, especially in children.About a quarter of all deaths among children (24%) arecaused by diarrheal diseases, according to a MadagascarMinistry of Health survey in 2000 (USAID, 2009).
