摘要：Nos finais do século XIX, Portugal era um país altamente fustigado pela tuberculose, falando-se em vinte mil mortos anuais. A tuberculose transformou-se progressivamente num problema social, político e médico. Face à ataraxia e inoperância do governo em solucionar a questão médica e social da tuberculose, um conjunto de estudantes e professores de medicina da Universidade de Coimbra decidiram organizar o primeiro congresso nacional da tuberculose, para discutir assuntos prementes sobre o combate à doença.Neste artigo pretende-se analisar as etapas de preparação e realização do congresso nacional da tuberculose de 1895, bem como avaliar o impacto da discussão científica gerada na posterior organização da luta contra a tuberculose em Portugal.
其他摘要：In the late 19th century, Portugal was a country highly castigated by tuberculosis, taking in twenty thousand deaths every year. Tuberculosis progressively became a social, political and medical problem. Given the government ataraxy and ineffectiveness in solving the medical and social issue of tuberculosis, a group of medical students and professors at University of Coimbra decided to organize the first national congress of tuberculosis to discuss pressing issues on the fight against the disease.In this paper we intend to analyze the preparation steps and realization of the national congress of tuberculosis of 1895 as well as to assess the impact of the scientific discussion generated in the subsequent organization of the struggle against tuberculosis in Portugal.
