摘要:Soil contamination by metals and metalloids is known to treat human beings and cause a serious damage of the ecosystem and destroy the environment. The present study was performed to evaluate the effect of Cu, Ni and As stress on seed germination and early seedling growth of barley and wheat. The plant seeds were treated with 0, 10, 50, 100 and 200 mg L-1 of the chosen elements. Based on the results, no effect was observed on seed germination whatever the metal used and the concentration applied (ranged between 96.6 and 100 % of barley and wheat final germination). Arsenic was found to decrease significantly root and shoot length, Tolerance index, root toxicity index and Seeds vigor index of seedlings of both plant species. By contrast, increasing Ni concentrations had a reduced effect on the parameter tested of barley seedlings. Results showed that barley was more sensitive to increasing levels of As and a high tolerance to Ni toxicity. Furthermore, the decreasing order effect of the tested elements on barley and wheat seedlings was As > Cu > Ni.
