摘要：Este artigo aborda a discordância entre o “eu” e o mundo no romance Nove Noites, de Bernardo Carvalho. Por meio de suas escolhas textuais, o escritor personifica no seu personagem central, Buell Quain, uma profunda discussão sobre a situação do ser perante as exigências da civilização, tema abordado por Sigmund Freud, em um de seus ensaios mais conhecidos, Mal-estar na civilização (2010). Nesse sentido, com base nesse texto do psicanalista e mediante a perspectiva assumida pelos dois narradores (FRIEDMAN, 2002) de Nove Noites , este estudo busca discutir a crise de identidade que atingiu o personagem suicida e, ao mesmo tempo, meditar o arranjo literário como espaço de representação das tensões existenciais do homem contemporâneo.
其他摘要：This article discusses the discordance between the "self" and the world in the novel Nine Nights by Bernardo Carvalho. Through his textual choices, the writer personifies in his central character, Buell Quain, a deep discussion about the situation of the self before the requirements of civilization, which is a subject debated by Sigmund Freud in one of his most famous texts, Civilization and Its Discontents (2010[1930]). In this sense, based on this text, through the perspective assumed by the two narrators (FRIEDMAN, 2002) in Nine Nights , this study seeks to discusses the identity crisis that reached the suicidal character and, at the same time, to reflect on literary art as a space for the representation of the contemporary man’s existential tensions.
