摘要:This article discusses how modern Finnish womenexperience forests in their everyday lives. Empiricalresearch material consists of narratives written bywomen of various ages. These narratives show thatwomen who tend to go to the woods go theremostly to get emotional and physical recreation.Especially forests nearby home and immediatesurroundings are important for the everyday livesand well-being of the women. Many of the womenare private forest owners and for them well-beingin forest means also personal forestry work. Theconsequence of the work emerges as a seeminglywell-kept landscape and as an improved woodproduction. On the grounds of women’s narratives, forests offering recreation and well-being must besilent and peaceful, they should be located nearhome, and there should be enough old trees.
