摘要：Este trabalho trata das representações possíveis por parte dos cidadãos em relação a um determinado bairro, no qual residem, formadas a partir da leitura de um jornal popular diário, o Diário Gaúcho, e pela leitura de um jornal de bairro, que conta com a participação dos moradores da mesma localidade, o Noticiário. A metodologia parte da Teoria da Representação Social (MOSCOVICI), tendo como técnicas de análise de conteúdo a pesquisa quantitativa e qualitativa, entrevistas, objetivando o levantamento da realidade do local a partir da leitura das edições do Diário Gaúcho de 10 a 17 de janeiro, fevereiro, março e abril de 2006 e as edições de janeiro, fevereiro e abril do jornal de bairro mensal - O Noticiário.
