摘要：Este trabalho tem por objetivos revisar conceitualmente as expressões literatura branca e literatura cinzenta e descrever algumas de suas características. Para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa, foi realizada, entre os anos 1990 e 2012, uma revisão da literatura nacional e internacional. Igualmente, foram estabelecidos alguns critérios de busca e recuperação da informação, como o uso e a combinação das palavras-chave literatura branca e literatura cinzenta; utilização de operadores booleanos; uso de aspas nas expressões de busca; e supressão de palavras vazias. Foram recuperadas publicações em português, castelhano, inglês e italiano. Os resultados obtidos revelam uma multiplicidade de conceitos, sinônimos, equivalentes idiomáticos, características, além de vários tipos e exemplos de documentos que pertencem às categorias literatura branca e literatura cinzenta. Em síntese, a Internet, o desenvolvimento das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação e o consequente aperfeiçoamento dos mecanismos de armazenamento, busca e recuperação da informação darão novas formas de acesso às literaturas branca e cinzenta.
其他摘要：This paper revises conceptually the expressions white literature and grey literature and describes some of
their characteristics. To develop the research, a national and international literature review, between the
years of 1990 and 2012, was realized. Also, some strategies to the research and information retrieval were
established, such as the use and combination of the keywords white literature and grey literature; the use
of Boolean operators; the use of quotes enclosing the search expressions; and the supression of empty
words. Publications in Portuguese, Spanish, English and Italian were retrieved. The results reveal a multiplicity
of concepts, synonyms, idiomatic equivalents, characteristics, as well as various types and examples of
documents which belong to the white literature and grey literature categories. Finally, the development of
Information and Comunication Technologies and the consequent improvement of the research storage and
information retrieval mechanisms will bring new forms of access to the white and grey literatures.
