摘要：Com a evolução das tecnologias, surgiram protocolos de comunicação para tornar possível a interoperação entre sistemas heterogêneos possibilitando intercâmbio de informação entre eles e tornando possível o acesso aos serviços e informações desejados, a partir de um ponto de contato, Isto facilitou e agilizou o processo de recuperação da informação. Bibliotecas e repositórios são exemplos de sistemas de informação que têm sido construídos inicialmente de forma independente e que passaram a ser integrados para facilitar o acesso a acervos de conteúdos digitalmente disponibilizados. Estes tipos de sistemas necessitam ser integrados, entre si, e com outros sistemas. Este artigo apresenta um panorama dos protocolos utilizados para prover a interoperação entre sistemas, e em especial, de bibliotecas, seguido da apresentação de algumas soluções adotadas para prover a integração de repositórios digitais entre si e com outros sistemas. Um exemplos de interação entre repositórios formando uma federação de repositórios é inicialmente descrito. Outro exemplo envolvendo interoperação entre um repositório e um sistema virtual de aprendizagem é também apresentado e discutido com mais detalhes. Palavras-chave Interoperação. Biblioteca. Repositório Digital. Abstract Before computer networks became pervasive, information systems were designed to be used alone in a department of a company or institution. With the emergence of computer networks, information systems acquired greater potential in terms of access to information, starting to share data and this way avoid redundancy and data inconsistency. However, different systems, implemented with different technologies, continued unable to interoperate. With the technology evolution communication protocols emerged and enabled interoperation between heterogeneous systems making possible information exchange between them and providing users with access to information and services, from one single point of contact, This facilitated and speeded up information retrieval. Libraries and repositories are examples of information systems that have been initially built independently and which are now gradually became integrated to facilitate access to collections of digital content. These types of systems need to be integrated with each other and with other systems. This article presents an overview of protocols used to provide interoperation between library and repository systems and presents some solutions adopted to provide the interoperation of digital. An example of interaction between repositories forming a federation of repositories is first described.
