摘要：Examinaremos o caso do jornal “A CRUZ”, sem dúvida, o mais representativo da Cidade, do ponto de vista cultural. Falaremos tanto de práticas de leitura no jornal, como das qualidades e limitações de um órgão impresso no interior, suas características culturais e materiais, tais como dimensões, tiragens, circulação geográfica e recepção social, naquele universo acanhado da primeira metade do século XX, em Mato Grosso. Era o jornal, indiscutivelmente, o principal meio de cultura letrada de então.
