摘要：A distinção entre história e ficção é imprecisa. A literatura pode apresentar narrativas de ficção como se fossem reais, acontecidas, trazendo personagens reais para a ficção literária. Há semelhanças entre a narrativa histórica e o relato ficcional uma vez que os dois discursos se estruturam da mesma maneira, e da mesma maneira lhes é dado sentido. Whit estabelece uma estreita relação entre historiografia e literatura e textos de ficção. Ao ser possível que um personagem histórico vá ao mundo fictício, torna-se possível o contrário. E foi o que aconteceu quando a figura do gaúcho, ser mitológico e herói; passou ao imaginário popular, não como o homem de ontem, tal qual era, roto e maltrapilho, ladrão de cavalos, mas um ser ideal que venha materializar a necessidade de uma identidade a ser construída da qual possamos nos orgulhar. A imagem do gaúcho pode ter se construído com a ajuda de um personagem literário; Rodrigo Cambará, que veio se instalar no imaginário do povo gaúcho. O Capitão veio emprestar sua identidade aos gaúchos que optaram por imprimir sua imagem à imagem de um ser quase mitológico, Capitão Rodrigo Cambará. Da arte, formou-se a vida. A literatura e a nostalgia fabricaram o respeito que o gaúcho queria para si. Os Riograndenses preferiram a sua história contada por Erico Verissimo em vez de por historiadores.
其他摘要：The distinction between history and fiction is blurred. Literature can present fiction narratives as if they were real, bringing real characters for literary fiction. There are similarities between the historical narrative and fictional story since the two speeches are structured the same way and equally they are given meaning. White (1995) establishes a close relationship between historiography, literature and fiction texts. Being possible that a historical figure go to fictional world, the opposite becomes possible as well. It was what happened to the figure of gaucho, a mythological hero who entered the popular imagination, not as a man from yesterday, as it was, shabby and ragged, a horse thief, but an ideal human being that could materialize the necessity of an identity to be constructed, whom we could be proud of. This gaucho’s image was constructed with the help of a literary character; Rodrigo Cambará, who settled in gaucho people’s minds. The Captain lent his identity to gauchos, who chose to print their images over the image of an almost mythological being. From art the life was formed. Literature and nostalgia made the respect that gauchos wanted to themselves. The riograndenses preferred their story told by Erico Verissimo rather than by historians.
