摘要：The disparity among the different translation approaches and the lack of consensus which have characterized the beginning of research on translation makes it rather diffi cult to provide a clear and irrefutable defi nition of the term « translation». The present paper attempts to delimit its object of study by making a clear distinction between translations as such and other phenomena which are placed at the limits of this communicative activity and which should be the object of specific study.↓La disparité de critères linguistiques et culturels entre les différentes écoles traductologiques a lesté le développement initial des recherches sur cette activité linguistique, communicative et cognitive qu’on appelle « traduction ». Ce manque de consensus vient ajouter une difficulté supplémentaire à la définition de ce terme. Dans cet article nous essayons de délimiter son objet d’étude en établissant une distinction claire et irréfutable entre la traduction proprement dite et les phénomènes qui se situent dans la frontière de cette activité symbolique, des phénomènes qui doivent être l’objet d’une étude spécifique.
