  • 摘要:This research is undertaken on the changing social and residential milieu in Bloemfontein. The research was adapted to measure environmental satisfaction and intra urban mobility among residents of high- and mediumdensity housing units in the greater Bloemfontein. To accomplish this, the social and economic attributes of the population were taken into account, as well as the physical and social environment. The aim of this study was to provide insight into the role of factors such as family size, environmental facilities, and social interaction, physical infrastructure in environmental satisfaction and mobility. The housing sectors in question were seen as important links in the process of intra urban migration. In the traditional black and coloured residential areas of the old order, high density housing did not exist in the Free State, with the exception of hostels for single men. After the Group Areas Act was abolished, residents of all cultures began moving to the traditional white suburbs and into high- and medium-density housing complexes.
