摘要：Shelter homes for battered women started to appear in the sixties in the USA as a response to the situation of emergency that domestic violence provoked in women. Only in the eighties did these homes start to be created in Spain. At present there are more that one-hundred and twenty five in the various autonomous regions in the country, and the situation is very heterogeneous. Many community resources are needed in order to make them sufficiently effective.
