摘要：O objetivo do artigo é compreender de que modo são representados diferentes universos sociais e as relações entre classes no seriado A Diarista, exibido pela TV Globo de 2004 a 2007. Na análise das representações que aparecem no seriado – relativas aos mundos dos “pobres” e dos “ricos” – a dimensão do consumo surge como meio privilegiado de expressão de diferenças sociais. O cotidiano da diarista aparece fortemente marcado pelo signo da “carência material”, sendo a personagem penalizada em suas tentativas de ultrapassar barreiras e usufruir do consumo dos “ricos”. Por fim, a análise das representações expressas no seriado é confrontada com um estudo sobre o consumo de empregadas domésticas, onde o papel da empregada se revela como o de mediadora entre dois mundos, permitindo uma “abertura para o consumo” dentro de seu universo social.
其他摘要：The aim of the article is to understand how different social universes are represented and the relations between classes in the television series A Diarista, aired on TV Globo from 2004 to 2007. In the analysis of the representations that appear in the series – relating to the worlds of the “poor” and the “rich” –, the consumption dimension emerges as a privileged means of expression of social differences. The maid’s daily life appears strongly marked by the sign of “material deprivation”, and the character is penalized in her attempts to overcome barriers and enjoy the consumption of the “rich”. Finally, the analysis of the representations expressed in the series is confronted with a study on the consumption of maids, in which the role of the maid is revealed as being the mediator between two worlds, what allows an “opening to consumption” within her social universe.
