摘要：Neste trabalho, o objetivo é focalizar as representações das escolas isoladas na documentação do estado do Rio Grande do Sul durante o início do século XX. Embora seja inegável que a escola seriada tenha se imposto como representação de uma instituição de melhor qualidade ao longo desse período e progressivamente tenha passado a predominar em termos quantitativos, esse processo não foi rápido e não se deu sem resistências. Assim, pretende-se mostrar que, até pelo menos os anos 1940, a matrícula nas escolas isoladas, de diversos tipos e administradas por diferentes instâncias, foi numericamente mais expressiva do que a das escolas seriadas, cuja instalação se deu em 1909 no estado. Pretende-se mostrar também os argumentos em defesa dessas pequenas escolas, bem como as dificuldades por elas enfrentadas e a evidência do desprestígio das escolas isoladas rurais. Para tanto, foram examinados os relatórios da Diretoria da Instrução Pública e a legislação pertinente.
其他摘要：This paper intends to focus on the representation of isolated schools in the documentation of the state of Rio Grande do Sul during the early twentieth century. Although it is undeniable that the graded school has imposed itself as the representation of an institution of higher quality over that period and progressively has turned to prevail in quantitative terms, this process has not been quick and did not happened without resistance. Thus, it is intended here to show that, at least until the 1940s, enrollment in isolated schools of several kinds and administrated by different instances, was numerically more expressive than that of graded schools, whose implementation occurred in 1909 in the state. Subsequently, arguments are mentioned in advocacy of these small schools, as well as the difficulties they have faced and the evidence of the loss of prestige of the isolated rural schools. For this, the Public Education Board reports and the relevant legislation were examined.
