摘要：Bu çalışmanın amacı Samsun 19 Mayıs Üniversitesi İngiliz Dili Eğitimi Anabilim Dalında okumakta olan 3. ve 4. sınıf öğrencilerinin cep telefonu ile ilgili algılarının metafor analizi ile araştırılmasıdır. Nitel araştırma yöntemi ve olgu bilim deseni çalışmanın esasını teşkil etmektedir. Çalışmada 123 öğrenci yer almıştır. Öğrencilerden, ‘Cep telefonu ……. gibidir çünkü ………….’ cümlesini tamamlamaları istenmiştir. İçerik analizi ile elde edilen veriler sonucunda 69 metafor ve bu metaforların ortak özelliklerine göre gruplandırılması sonucu 6 kategori ortaya çıkmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda öğrencilerin genelde cep telefonu hakkında olumlu görüşleri ve yaklaşımları olduğu görülmüştür. Bunun yanısıra, bazı öğrenciler cep telefonunu tehlikeli bir unsur ve bağımlılığın kaynağı olarak belirtmişlerdir. A METAPHOR ANALYSIS OF ELT STUDENTS ABOUT MOBILE PHONE PERCEPTION The aim of this study is to investigate the 3 rd and 4 th grade students at ELT department at Samsun 19 May University students’ perceptions toward mobile phone via metaphor analysis. Qualitative research technique and phenomenological design have been used in this study. 123 students have taken part in this study. These students are asked to complete the sentence “Mobile phone is like a (n) … because …” and this sentence is used in the analysis of the data. According to the data taken by content analysis technique, the participants have mentioned 69 metaphors and based on their common properties, 6 conceptual categories are identified. As a result of this study, it is clear that students have quite positive ideas about mobile phone. However, it is also identified that students have some negative concepts such as a dangerous concept and addiction.
