摘要：O que tornou El ingenioso hidalgo de la Mancha (1605, 1615) um dos títulos de maior destaque no cânone ocidental foi a união de um gênero literário então em decadência, a novela de cavalaria, e das questões enfrentadas pela burguesia emergente. A fórmula de se abordar a problemática de seu tempo com uma roupagem da literatura medieval é mais tarde retomada por Italo Calvino em Il cavaliere inesistente (1959). Além desse aspecto, esses romances dialogam entre si por meio de seus cavaleiros protagonistas, que vivem as dicotomias da essência e da aparência, da realidade e da ilusão. What made El ingenioso higalgo de la Mancha (1605, 1615) one of the most prominent titles in the occidental canon was the union of a literary genre that was in fall, the chivalric romance, and the problems faced by the emerging bourgeoisie. The formula of talking about his own time’s issues in a medieval literature garb is later retaken by Italo Calvino in Il cavaliere inesistente (1959). Apart from this, these novels speak between each other through their protagonist knights, who live the dichotomies of the essence and appearance, of reality and illusion.
