摘要：O presente texto tem por objetivo analisar as representações do sujeito negro na última década do século XIX por meio do romance Bom Crioulo, do autor naturalista Adolfo Caminha. Publicada originalmente em 1895, esta obra é considerada uma das mais representativas produções literárias do naturalismo brasileiro. Caminha, um escritor republicano e abolicionista, vivenciou a efervescência do republicanismo da chamada geração de 1870. A ideia de progresso civilizacional, sustentada pelo pensamento científico e atrelada à ânsia republicana, no entanto, gera uma contradição: de que maneira será possível assegurar a liberdade e igualdade a todos os homens, e ao mesmo tempo manter a população negra em sua posição subalterna? Este dilema, exposto com veemência pelo autor da obra aqui analisada, é o objeto de nossas indagações.
其他摘要：The present text aims to analyze the representations of the black subject in the last decade of the nineteenth century through the novel Bom Crioulo, by the naturalist author Adolfo Caminha. Originally published in 1895, this work is considered one of the most representative productions of the brazilian literary naturalism. Caminha, a republican writer and abolitionist, experienced the effervescence of republicanism of the so-called 1870’s generation. The idea of civilizational progress, sustained by scientific thought, and linked to republican eagerness, however, generates a contradiction: in what way will it be possible to ensure freedom and equality to all men, and at the same time keep the black population in their subaltern position? This dilemma, vehemently exposed by the author of the work here analyzed, is the object of our inquiries.
