摘要：Pouso Alegre atualmente é uma cidade média com significativa importância na rede urbana do Sul de Minas, entretanto, em seu processo de urbanização, alguns setores foram evidentemente mais valorizados do que outros, e este é o caso de sua área central, que recebeu diversos benefícios no decorrer da história, em especial na primeira metade do século XX. O objetivo do presente artigo é de evidenciar como o poder público local, aliado a agentes sociais hegemônicos, como a Igreja, o Exército e a elite financeira da época, tinha o interesse pelo “embelezar a cidade”, por meio de discursos progressistas e modernizantes, que se materializaram nos espaços centrais de Pouso Alegre nas décadas de trinta e quarenta. Todavia, apesar desses discursos e ações, o município atravessava um período de certa estagnação econômica e demográfica, e mesmo sendo ainda uma cidade pouco populosa, em seu espaço já se presenciava uma expressiva desigualdade entre as áreas centrais e os bairros periféricos.
其他摘要：Pouso Alegre is currently an average town with significant importance in the urban network of the Sul de Minas, however, in the process of urbanization, some sectors were clearly more valued than others, and this is the case for the central area, which received various benefits throughout history, especially in the first half of the twentieth century. The purpose of this article is to show how the local government, together with hegemonic social actors, such as the church, the army and the financial elite of the time, had an interest in "beautify the city" through progressive and modernizing speeches which materialized in the central areas of Pouso Alegre in the thirties and forties. However, despite these speeches and actions, the city went through a period of some economic and demographic stagnation, and even still be a bit crowded city, in your space already witnessed a significant gap between the central and peripheral neighborhoods.
