Abstract: This paper is an expanded abstract of our dissertation, concluded in March 2007; at the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos – Unisinos. The geographical position of the central coastal plain is 30°15’ to 32°15’S and 50°15’ to 52°05’. It is an area of a Quaternary geological formation with sandy ground, underbrush, coastal forests; hydrography composed by lagoons, lakes and streams. The archaeological sites of the Tupiguarani pottery tradition are located, the most of then, eroded over dunes (31), as well the mounds called “cerritos” (01), marine shell mounds (03) and lagoon shell mounds (04) and open-field sites (09). To establish an analog framework, the results obtained were: The material found in the central coastal plain is similar in manufacture techniques to the material around the Rio Grande do Sul State. The main aspects of pottery are, predominantly, corrugated decoration.
