摘要：Cifrado el propósito inicial de este ensayo en indagar acerca de la supuesta servidumbre de las artes plásticas en relación con la dramática barroca en general y con la veta calderoniana en particular, terminamos barajando la posibilidad de invertir los términos del planteamiento de partida: ¿acaso no sería el texto dramático el que acababa plegándose sin remedio a unos requerimientos escenográficos que, resueltos básicamente mediante el concurso de las artes plásticas, llegaron a considerarse prioritarios ? Aun viniendo de lejos, el debate no está agotado; de ahí que nos planteemos si todavía existe margen para hablar de primacías. Although the initial idea of this article was to analize the supposed servitude of the visual arts with respect to baroque theatre in general and the tradition of Calderón in particular, in the end, the possibility of inverting this relationship is raised: Is it not possible that the dramatic text bowed down to expanding escenographic demands which were resolved through the use of the visual arts, and which in the end became the priority? Even though this debate has long been present in the historiography, because it is unresolved, one can still consider whether it is possible to discuss which element in this equation was the prímary one.
