摘要:Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) are important vehicles for disseminating cultural values. On one hand, they are effective ways of increasing the inhabitants’ awareness of past and identity dimensions of their place and so contribute to preserve heritage. On the other hand, they attract new visitors and enhance their knowledge about heritage. Consequently, in recent years, the use of ICTs to make the information about heritage more accessible is widely used by public administration. Recognising the enabling role of the ICTs for heritage promotion and as a driver for cultural sustainability, this study aims to investigate the use of online sources in two stages of the Portuguese Coastal Way of St. James, Baiona and Combarro (Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain). To develop this case study a qualitative content analysis methodology was applied. The sources researched fall into three categories: mobile applications (APPs), websites and social media. Results show that substantial investment is required, in terms of both effort and resources, to bring about ITC-based territorial promotion.
