摘要：Este artículo presenta la obra de George Steiner, crítico literario de formación cultural europea, que ha publicado su obra en el contexto de la academia norteamericana. Además de servir de puente entre ambas culturas, Steiner se ha preocupado por plantear una posición polémica frente a algunas tendencias dominantes en la crítica estadounidense. Su primer y segundo libros, Tolstoi o Dostoievsky (1959) y La muerte de la tragedia (1961), se opusieron a la noción del New Criticism de que una obra debe estudiarse en forma aislada; más adelante, Steiner se enfrentó a posiciones deconstruccionistas que afirman que el texto se origina a partir de una ausencia. La obra de Steiner es muestra de un pensamiento original y de una afirmación del valor estético de la literatura.
其他摘要：This article presents the work of George Steiner, a literary critic whose training was mainly European but who has published most of his work in the context of the North American academy. Besides serving as a bridge between the two cultures, Steiner has been engaged in formulating a polemic position towards some dominant tendencies in North American criticism. His first and second books, Tolstoy or Dostoevsky (1959) and The Death of Tragedy (1961), opposed the New Critical notion that a work must be studied in isolation; subsequently, Steiner defied Deconstructionist positions which maintain that the text originates from an absence. Steiner’s work is an example of original thought and an affirmation of the aesthetic value of literature.
