摘要：Even being a fundamental concept to theory and clinical practice in psychoanalysis, countertransference is a controversial issue in most psychoanalytic theories. The present research conducts a literature review on countertransference in order to situate it within history of psychoanalysis. The development of this work consisted on examining the work of some authors whose productions make important contributions to the field of countertransference, such as Paula Heiman, Heinrich Racker, Donald Winnicott and Hanna Segal. The objective of this work is to elucidate the manner in which the feelings of the analyst may manifest in their clinical performance, sometimes working as hindrance to the technique, other times serving as tools of research on the patient's unconscious. We have also demonstrated the impossible existence of an analyst free from conceptions, affections, and desires, proposing that instead of being barriers to therapeutic process, they can work as important instruments.
