摘要:Structural changes and innovation in the financial sector present challenges for statisticians in keeping statistics fit for purpose, and capable of meeting the needs of policy makers. Much of this innovation has been materialized in the non bank financial sector. Non-bank financial intermediaries have then also become the focus for the work being carried out on "shadow banking”,although the shadow banking is by no means to be identified with the full non-bank financial sector. This paper provides an overview of the financial sector statistics which are collected by the European Central Bank and national central banks in Europe and which are an important source of information on non-bank financial intermediation. Some upcoming developments in the collection and publication of statistics are also presented.
