摘要:The aim o f this stu dy is to investigate the left ventricular structure and fiιn ction characteristics of elite young basketba ll players by echocardiography.Fourteen elite male ba sketba ll players (BAS),aged 16-31 yea rs,an d 13 sedentary male control subjects (KON)t aged 21 -2 9 years were included in the study. The training age range of th e BA S group ιva s 4 to 18 years.Left ventricular structure and function of the subjects were evalua ted with M-mode and Doppler echocardiography. Results were com pared with the independent samp les t-test.With regard to higher body surface area (VYA) in the BA S group when compared w ith KON group (p<0.001),all cardiac dimensio ns were corrected fo r body siz e.Left ventricular mass and mass index, mean left ventricular internal diameter, interventricular septum an d posterior wall thick ness values were significantly (p<0.05-0.001) higher in the B AS group, both during systo le and diastole. When body size corrected values were interpreted, only the mean left ventricular internal dia meter during diastole was significantly (p<0∙05) higher in the BA S group. The ratio of early and late peak transmttrcdfloιv velocity (p<0∙05) and deceleration time (p<0,01)f wh ich reflect left ventricular diastolic Junction, were higher in the BA S group. However, the isoυolumetric relaxation time wa s similar fo r both groups. With respect to left ventricular systo lic function, only the mean value o f myocardial performance index wa s significantly (p<0∙05) lower in the BA S group.Aortic distensibility index wa s similar fo r both groups. All of the KON group and the majority of the BA S group, with the exception o f concentric remodeling in two players and eccentric hypertrophy in one player, displayed normal ventricular geom etry. The results o f the stud y su gg est tha t eccentric left ventricular hypertrophy, not exceeding pathological ranges, develop in young basketball players with the given training history.Overall, basketball players'heart demonstrated improvements in left ventricular sy sto lic a nd d iastolic function.
