摘要:Effects of acute exercise on haematological and biochemical parameters have been intensively examined. However, limited number of studies were carried out on the effects of chronic exercise on the se parameters in the elderly. This study aimed at comparing the haematological, serum iron,Mg levels and lipid profiles of a master athletes group (A) having an exercise habit of 38.8± 18.5 years (16-62 years) with a sedentary group (S).Elderly men (n=ll∙∙ 67.1+ 6.0 yrs) performing regular athletics training, and 11 sedentary counterparts (64.9±4∙6 yrs) participated in the study.MaxVO2,haematological parameters, serum iron, iron binding capacity (IBC),ferritin,Mg,cholesterol, triglycerides ∣TG)f HDL-C,and LDL-C levels were measured.Athletes had higher MaxVO2 and were leaner than the sedentary (p<0.01).Haematological parameters, iron and Mg ion levels were not statistically different. However, leukocyte counts had a declining tendency in athletes (p= 0.056).A declining tendency in TG and an increasing tendency in HDL-C were observed in athletes (p>0.05).Although no significarιt changes occured in haematological and iron parameters, chronic exercise has yielded increased MaxVO2f and decre ased percent body fa t in the elderly. The declining tendency in TG levels and the increasing tendency in HDL-C levels are known to be effective in reducing coronary heart d ise ase risk.
